Woman, 2 daughters burnt to death in Beluran fire

BELURAN (Sabah): A woman and her two young daughters were burnt to death in a fire at a furniture and equipment shop here, according to the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station on Thursday.
The burnt bodies of Siti Jainah Ajak, 39, Siti Aznizah Hussin, nine, and Siti Azikah Hussin, three, were found in an embrace in a bathroom on the top floor of the two-storey shophouse where the family lived, said Sandakan Fire and Rescue chief Jemishin Ujin.
They appeared to have been unable to get out of the burning building as all the entrances were protected by steel gilles and the blaze, which started on the ground floor at about 9 pm, spread quickly, he said.
Siti Jainah's husband, Hussin Ismail, and their son, Mohd Aznizam, 11, were not at home during the fire, he added.
Jemishin said the Fire and Rescue Station sent a fire truck with four firemen from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station after being summoned at about 9pm on Wednesday.
By the time the firemen arrived, the fire had already spread from the ground floor to the top floor, he said.
Two multipurpose trucks with six more firemen were sent from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station, he said, adding that the fire was put out at 12.58am.

Firemen found the huddled bodies in the bathroom.
The bodies have been sent to the Beluran Hospital.
An adjacent restaurant and the office of the Beluran parliamentary constituency were slightly damaged in the fire, he said.
The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained, he said.
